Jamy - Making a Difference with Acrylic Why Acrylic?
Acrylic is a versatile material that can be machined, heat formed and laser cut for use indoors or out. Furthermore cast Acrylic is lighter, stronger and safer than glass.
What is it used for?
It is widely used in the display and exhibition industry, the building and engineering trade and, as in our case, to produce point of purchase displays, promotional product and awards.
How is it used?
Most commonly Acrylic is seen in sheet form and specialist companies produce a wide range of products using standard colours and thicknesses. Jamy Ltd have developed techniques to laminate sheet material and to cast blocks of acrylic to produce three dimensional shapes with special colours and textures. Jamy can encapsulate a diverse range of objects into clear blocks from printed items right up to apparently 'floating' items such as metal hardware or popular drink bottles and cans. The design possibilities are highly varied and the end results visually stunning.
Is Perspex different to Acrylic?
Perspex, Plexiglas, Lucite are all brand names for some of the bigger producers of Acrylic.
Do you Re-cycle Acrylic?
It is usually recycled by “cracking” it back to its chemical constituents. This is a process for larger plants, mainly overseas. Our contribution is to fill some of our castings, for less demanding applications, with a proportion of reground material which would otherwise go to landfill. We consider this a responsible way to go and welcome further applications for this procedure such as providing translucent material for the lighting or interior décor market. |
